Situation:

The School of Kinesiology was seeking support in developing the infrastructure to implement their strategic plan and better align resources in the School to maximize their strategic success. The School was also looking for support on how to prioritize new initiatives. With new leadership there was a greater focus on collaborative partnerships which needed to be embedded into the School's strategic plan.

Our Actions:

  • Completed a situation assessment:  SDS attended all of the working group meetings and the School retreat to collect and process data from all the stakeholders which helped us to understand a baseline of where is the school was at with meeting the objectives already established in their strategic plan and also to identify any potential opportunities
  • Facilitated sessions to define the school’s vision for the future
  • Facilitated sessions  to define long-term goals, objectives, performance metrics and activities
  • Developed tools and templates that the School could use to implement and prioritize their goals and activities in the future

Results:

  • Activities to be started in 2016 were prioritized and are now under way
  • The School of Kinesiology is using the tools and templates provided to ensure the strategic plan is front and centre in decision making and it remains being a living document
  • The evaluation framework for assessing feasibility and  prioritization of opportunities is allowing the School to decide whether or not to take on new projects
  • The School of Kinesiology is now able to measure their progress on the achievement of the stated goals by using the performance metrics put in place

"I want to express my deep gratitude to the SDS team for the level of skill and expertise they brought to the School’s strategic plan development. The dedication and guidance they shared throughout the year-long process -- including the extensive face-to-face meetings with our Strategic Planning Advisory group -- was truly remarkable. Each of the project facets, including the evaluation, implementation, performance and sustainability frameworks, financial modelling, risk and feasibility assessments, organizational structure, and management insights and guidance have proven invaluable. We’ve made measurable changes to the way we function strategically thanks to their professional service.”
