Situation:

The Office of VP International was considering refreshing the terms of a facility joint venture agreement with an international partner university in order to reflect the current mutual value of the arrangement.  The Office approached SDS as they were seeking support on understanding the options and corresponding impacts.

Our Actions:

  • Developed scenarios that aligned with the Office of VP International’s goal of optimizing mutual value
  • Created a 25 year financial model to analyze the NPV impact of the scenarios over the term of the agreement
  • Facilitated discussions between the Office of VP International and relevant offices within UBC such as Treasury, Budget Office and Student Housing to come to a common agreement on the recommended approach

Results:

  • The Office of VP International’s leadership gained clarity on the various options and was able to have informed discussions with the partner university
  • The Office of VP International will renew their engagement with the partner university in a constructive way that has produced immense satisfaction for both parties

SDS’ approach and advice were spot on from start to finish! From the initial consultation to understand our needs through to the project wrap-up, including a summary of the cost-benefit analysis and financial modelling findings, the service provided was excellent. Through this process SDS surfaced several scenarios that we had not previously considered, and we were able to use this information to come to a decision regarding the financial terms of the renewed partner agreement that we feel will significantly enhance the relationship.
